Dino-Rama Demolition Complete - February 25, 2025
Posted: Tuesday February 25, 2025 11:20am ET by WDWMAGIC Staff

Another major milestone in the Tropical Americas expansion has been reached as TriceraTop Spin has now been completely demolished at Disney's Animal Kingdom. After what appeared to be a careful, phased disassembly over the past few weeks, the entire ride structure is now gone.

Dino-Rama is Now Cleared—Except for Rubble

With TriceraTop Spin's removal, the entire Dino-Rama area has been cleared, with only piles of rubble and debris remaining from the demolition process. The once carnival-style section of Dinoland U.S.A. has now been reduced to an open construction site as work progresses toward its transformation into Tropical Americas.

A Rapid Demolition Process

TriceraTop Spin's removal started with what appeared to be careful disassembly, leading to speculation that it might be repurposed. However, overnight, crews demolished the remaining structure.

What's Next for the Tropical Americas Expansion?

With Dino-Rama now almost fully cleared, the next steps are likely to include:

  • Final debris removal and site leveling
  • Groundwork and infrastructure installation
  • Visible construction on new attractions later this year

The Tropical Americas expansion will feature a new Encanto-themed attraction, allowing guests to step inside the Madrigal family's casita, and a new Indiana Jones adventure replacing DINOSAUR after it closes in early 2026. The entire land is expected to open in phases, with full completion anticipated by 2027.

Pooh, the jungle cruise, phillarmagic, mermaid, are better at MK. Peoplemover, Astro orbitor above TL, CBJ, COP, HOP, mine train, TRON are only at MK. BTM, Buzz are getting upgrades that should put them on par

I would love to see Nemo replaced with a Coco show focused on alebrijes, using giant puppets, with some new original songs alongside the classic ones. Coco 2 opens in 2029 so they could get a leg up and have this open in 2028

I enjoyed the new show - maybe a little less mature but had great puppetry and like you said, a great break from the parks and the shorter duration than the original version doesn't eat as much into your day

What theaters do is "eat" people and help with capacity. I'll see Nemo almost every time. A chance to cool down for 30 minutes and enjoy a show? Check.

It'd be super-redundant with the Seas With Nemo and Friends' existence in EPCOT, too. As for what to do with the theater, I don't know.

The Theater area would have been a great location for Mystic Point... A bridge between Asia and the Tropical Americas....but I think that Encanto is going to take all of the extra area leaving no room there for much of anything...

Maybe that's what the schematic plans are for that show a Soarin 2.0 style setup? That would work terrific for Up

Understood. However, I grew up going to WDW and didn't visit DL until I was 26. Maybe of the rides I came to love at WDW we're instantly downgraded in my mind, making me kinda mad. The appreciation for the 'little' park in the middle of Anaheim went up considerably. I'm not belittling MK at all, or mad at anyone, just disappointed.

With zootopia, Encanto, the carousel and Indy open I could see that being a good time to retire Nemo. DAK doesn’t necessarily need 3 live theatre shows. I’ve only seen the show once after they redid it - I’m not against it but I don’t think the current version is really that great.

It was Walt’s original park so it’s fair to say that. However let’s not discount all the Imagineers who worked tirelessly to get WDW open. I don’t understand this constant need to belittle these parks. Just enjoy them for the what they are.

Not a lot of great options. I think Encanto (pink) would take away any possible expansion in that direction... In theory you could bulldoze ROL seats and expand into the lagoon a little (red). Finally you could build another bridge to the base of Everest but you would be in it's shadow.

Odd take, why would they not need Nemo?

It's the perfect pairing for Indiana Jones, and it would be a MONEY MAKER for the park if they made it into a ADR or tapas bar.

When tropical Americas fully opens they may not think they need Nemo anymore - the theatre could easily become a flex space for special events.
